Paul Wheelock, the Blackburn Rovers reporter for the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, today reports that “Gestede, who scored six goals in six starts in April, saw off competition from Burnley captain and centre-back Jason Shackell, Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Adam Bogdan and Millwall midfielder Nicky Bailey to net the prize.

“Rovers boss Gary Bowyer said: “Rudy has been a fantastic signing for us.

“As a person, he is top class. He has played a massive part for the team with some very impressive performances. His goals have been the icing on the cake.

“He works hard to improve his game and he is only going to get better.”

Sky Sports' Football League pundit Don Goodman said: "Rudy has finished the season strongly and scored plenty of goals.

"Rudy's form and a developing partnership with the prolific Jordan Rhodes has put smiles back on the faces of the Rovers fans."

Sky Bet Head of Football Paul Wiggins said: "Rudy Gestede's efforts this month have helped Blackburn to get within a chance of qualifying for the Play-Offs with one game remaining.

"He has made a fantastic impact after signing a permanent deal in November with 11 goals for the Lancashire side."

The Rovers Trust sponsors a first team player each season as one of the many ways to help the club’s commercial operation, raise the profile of the Trust and offer added value to members with competitions and free hospitality throughout the season.

Brian Lamb, commercial officer for the Rovers Trust, said: “We are delighted for Rudy as he’s been a very consistent player for us this season.

“Sponsoring a player helps raise the profile of the Trust, particularly on match days, and also gives us a chance to help the commercial department at Ewood Park and strengthen our links with the club.”
