Rovers Fans Ramp Up Support For Girona Friendly At Ewood

The Blackburn Rovers Supporters Trust, known as We Are The Rovers, are putting their support behind the upcoming Girona friendly game being played at Ewood Park on Saturday 29th July.
July 23, 2023

This is unique at Ewood Park. It is the first time the Rovers supporters organisation have sponsored a game. However this is much more than sponsorship; it shows how supporters can work closely in tandem with both the Club senior management and the Blackburn Rovers Community Trust to improve the fan experience and encourage a new cadre of fans to attend and become future Rovers supporters.

We Are The Rovers Chair John Murray said:

"We are committed to working with the Club. We are determined to improve on the match day experience and make Blackburn Rovers the go to club in Lancashire again.\n\nWe are to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Club CEO Steve Waggott and his colleagues on the pitch at half-time. This will formalise our relationship with the Rovers Management Board and give us a platform to engage on future key strategic issues within the Club. It is a very welcome move albeit we recognise it is two-way and we need to bring forward ideas in a professional manner. We see ourselves as the ‘critical friend’. The Girona match is not just about signing the Memorandum, it is much more according to We Are The Rovers."

Different supporters groups will be having promotional stalls in the Rovers Fanzone including the recently formed South Asian Supporters. The pre match and walk out music is being chosen by supporters and a local band is being sponsored to play in the Blues Bar following the game.

We Are The Rovers are also sponsoring the pre-match flag bearers Brinscall under 7’s football team from Chorley and, in conjunction with the brfcs.com fans message board, well over £1000 has been raised to date to buy match tickets and pay for transport for younger people who otherwise would be unable to afford to attend Ewood Park; this is being organised in conjunction with Blackburn Youth Zone.

Blackburn Rovers Community Trust are also arranging numerous family friendly activities.\n\nJohn Murray also commented:

“We are please to work with Blackburn Rovers and their charity the Community Trust. We look to Rovers fans to turn out in good numbers and we hope this is the start of many more supporter lead initiatives.”
